Storm King Brass

The Storm King Brass, comprised of musicians from the West Point Band, just completed two tours on opposite sides of the US. The first occurred in Florida where the group performed at University of Miami, the New World School of the Arts, and Florida International University. Within a few days of their return to West Point, the ensemble then travelled to Oregon, where they were featured at the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and Portland State University. The members include SFC Eric Miller and SSG Luke MacDonald (trumpet), SSG Nick Caluori (horn), SSG Curt Starr (trombone), and SSG Nathan Turner (tuba).

The quintet’s performances featured a variety of classical literature by composers ranging from Franz von Suppe’ to Leonard Bernstein. The ensemble also featured three works arranged from West Point Band members, including a tuba feature showcasing the familiar tune, “Chopsticks.” Additionally, the Storm King Brass’ program included a unique multimedia performance to the silent film “Teddy at the Throttle” (arranged by former West Point Band staff arranger SGM Paul Murtha). Both tours offered a complementary contrast to the ensemble’s performance schedule in the New York metropolitan area.
