Illinois Brass Quintet


The Illinois Brass Quintet, faculty quintet in residence at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was founded in 1955 by late University of Illinois trumpet professor, Haskell Sexton. The 2005-2006 season marked the 50th anniversary of the worlds first faculty brass quintet. IBQ's past includes pioneering recordings in the Music Minus One series and involvement with outreach and campus functions. Past members have included Ron Bishop, Robert Gray, Thomas Holden, Fritz Kaenzig, Kent Larmee, Raymond Nutaitis, Daniel Perantoni, Ray Sasaki, Haskell Sexton, David Tasa, and Michael Tunnell among others.

Current members of the quintet have performed with major orchestras in the United States and abroad including the Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, Stuttgart Radio Orchestra, and Sydney Symphony. As chamber musicians they have performed at numerous festivals and as members of ensembles including the Canadian Brass, Chicago Brass Quintet, Chicago Chamber Brass, Los Angeles Brass Quintet, Metropolitan Brass Quintet, Sonus Brass, and The United States Air Force Chamber Players.
